Did You Know About These Natural Remedies for Uneven Skin Tone?

Beauties,
We have received quite a few inquiries about how to care for an uneven skintone as uneven skin tone can make you look tired, older and unhealthy. Skin complexion can become uneven due to slowed skin cell turnover, darkened areas caused by pigmentation, decreased blood circulation, dry or oily skin and acne and other inflammatory skin disorders. We have gathered a list of natural ingredients that will help to even out your complexion and help the restore the skin's natural balance.

Oatmeal Cleanser

Use a coffee grinder to make finely ground oatmeal; combine it with water to make a gently exfoliating face scrub. Add oatmeal to yogurt to make a cleansing and skin-brightening face mask.

Lemon Toner

Even out skin tone, remove excess oil and speed up natural exfoliation with a homemade lemon skin toner. Combine a few drops of lemon juice to equal parts distilled water and witch hazel in a clean bottle. Shake well and apply with a cotton pad; leave the toner to dry on the skin. The witch hazel is a herbal antibacterial cleanser to prevent acne and the lemon juice contains citric acid to exfoliate the skin lightly.

Yogurt Mask

A yogurt mask for a healthy even-toned complexion contains lactic acid which helps to remove dead skin cells to fade pigmented marks on the face and brighten overall complexion. Use yogurt alone on the face to cleanse and dissolve oils. Simply apply as a mask, leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off with warm water. To reduce excess oils, mix finely ground chickpea power to a spoonful of yogurt and apply as a mask.

Honey Moisturizer

Honey is beneficial for all skin types and has natural anti-bacterial, cleansing and hydrating qualities. Use honey as a mask to heal, moisturize and balance dry skin. Also try a mask made with honey, mashed avocado and finely ground oatmeal to soften, heal and cleanse dry, itchy skin. The avocado contains Vitamin E and natural oils.

Olive Oil Treatment

Inflamed, red skin patches on the face can be caused by dry skin, minor eczema, sun sensitivity and harsh skin cleansers. Soothe inflamed and irritated skin by gently applying olive oil or flaxseed oil to the affected area. The omega-3 fatty acids in these oils have anti-inflammatory properties and add moisture to alleviate skin redness.

Hope this helps beauties! Remember, less is more- Don't over do it when it comes to your skin. If trying any of the hoe remedies listed above, go for "balance and enough" on application- and try to stay away from applying in excesses!

xo,

Maryam

10 Super-Foods for Healthy Hair that WILL make a difference

It's true: Your diet has an impact on your locks! We can improve hair growth, texture, shine and overall health by what we eat. Find our coveted list of the top 10 foods for healthy hair, and they’re all surprisingly easy to squeeze into your diet. Here’s how to eat your way to better hair.

1

Salmon

salmon
Salmon is at the top of our list! Of all the foods listed here, salmon packs the most punch when it comes to your tresses. It is full of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron and vitamin B-12. This means salmon will add shine, prevent dry scalp and improve hair growth! This delish fish is a miracle food for your hair.

2

Nuts

almonds
Almonds, pecans, cashews and walnuts all contain zinc, which minimizes hair shedding. Walnuts also contain a high level of omega-3 fatty acid, which helps boost shine and fullness. Keep a small bag of nuts in your purse for a quick and easy snack... that leads to fab hair!

3

Bright-colored fruit

strawberry
Bold fruit equals better hair! Mango, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple and peaches are all rich with vitamin C, an essential for making collagen that gives structure to hair. Plus, they taste amazing. There’s another excuse to order that smoothie!

4

Lowfat dairy

yogurt
Aside from the vitamins D and B-5 that dairy delivers, all that calcium plays a major role in hair growth. Low-fat dairy products like cheese, yogurt and 2 percent or skim milk contain casein and whey, both high in protein, which prevents dry scalp.

5

Sweet potatoes

sweet potato
Let's talk beta carotene power! This antioxidant vitamin is converted to vitamin A once in the body. And vitamin A is necessary for cell growth, including your hair! A vitamin A deficiency often results in dull, dry skin... which then flakes off of your scalp as dandruff. Swap out your regular baked potato with a sweet potato instead.

6

Dark green veggies

broccoli
Here's another reason you need to eat those dang veggies! If you aren't going to eat veggies for your health, at least do it for your hair! Green things like spinach, kale and broccoli are all major sources of vitamins A and C. These vitamins help produce sebum, a scalp oil that acts as a natural hair conditioner.

7

Oysters

oyster
Not just a natural aphrodisiac, Oysters are packed with zinc, which helps hair growth and keeps the oil glands at the scalp working correctly. Low levels of zinc can result in slow hair growth, dandruff and even hair loss. Keep this in mind next time you're ordering appetizers at a seafood restaurant!

8

Lentils

lentils
Lentils are a great way to get zinc, biotin and iron-rich protein in your diet. Protein is an important key to healthy hair, as it helps strengthen the actual strands and aids in the speed of growth. Protein also works to prevent dry scalp, making it an especially important part of your diet in the colder months. These little beans aren't just for vegetarians! Meat-lovers could also benefit from the extra vitamin boost lentils provide.

9

Eggs

egg
As perhaps the most versatile food on this list, there are countless ways you can work eggs into your healthy-hair diet. Eggs are rich in biotin, which is a B vitamin essential for scalp health and hair growth. Eggs are also high in iron, which carries oxygen to the hair follicles. Have an egg with breakfast a few times a week, and you’ll be on your way to fuller, stronger hair in no time.

10

Poultry

chicken
Chicken is full of protein, zinc, iron and B vitamins to keep your locks full and strong.
I love all the superfoods listed here and they can be easily incorporated into YOUR diet too for healthy locks!

Affordable Eco-Friendly Ways to Maintain Your GLOW and Beauty, Naturally!

Beauties,
We love trying all of the new products and potions that come our way, but sometimes we like to go classic with homemade, natural beauty treatments. Fancy treatments for hair, skin and nails are undoubtedly luxurious, but sometimes the best beauty fixes can be found in your home!

We want to share 3 of our favorite GO-TO natural, homemade beauty remedies that actually work:

1. You've probably heard of using toothpaste to dry up zits.. It also works great when you use it to scrub the yellow stains off your nails that can result from wearing nail polish. Just put some toothpaste on an old toothbrush (we chose this all-natural Tom's formula that is made without sulfates — meaning that it won't dry out your cuticles!), and scrub away at clean nails. Your nails will look so fresh and so clean-clean that you can go without lacquer and still look polished.

2. If you've noticed that your skin has lost its usual brightness and luster, squeeze some fresh lemon juice onto a cotton pad and apply to skin.
Lemon juice is an acid, so it can act as a toner for dull skin. It has exfoliating properties, so it can help brighten the look of the skin. But, it can also be very drying, so make sure to rinse it off after ten minutes or so.
3. Apple cider vinegar removes clumpy residue in hair from product buildup. It also works excellently as a natural detangler. When used regularly in your natural hair care routine, apple cider vinegar can revitalize your hair, leaving it soft and smooth. The vinegar also works by closing the cuticle of the hair and makes your hair super shiny!

There you go Beauties! As easy as 1, 2, 3!

Did You Know Roses Make an Excellent Natural Facial Toner? Here's how to Make Some!

Beauties,

I was inspired to share my new Rosewater Toner recipe. It has left my skin feeling supple and firm. Roses have been used for centuries in beauty rituals and products! This DIY rosewater toner is easy to make and definitely a treat to use. It makes a gentle and all-natural face toner for almost all skin types, and it’s easy and inexpensive to make (about $5).

Supplies: 2 roses for about one packed cup of rose petals (be sure to rinse the petals first), 2 cups boiling water
1 strainer, 1 large, sterilized glass container (large enough to hold 2 cups of liquid) with a tight-fitting lid.
Instructions:
  1. Remove the rinsed rose petals from the roses and place them in a small pan.
  2. Pour two cups of boiling water over the petals and put a lid on the pan. Allow the water and petals to sit until the water cools to about room temperature.
  3. Place the strainer over a large, sterilized glass container and pour the water into the container.
  4. Optional: Add some of the rosewater to a small, sterilized glass container with a lid for a more convenient size to use in your bathroom.
  5. Store extra rosewater in the refrigerator for about a week.
  6. Apply the rosewater toner to a clean face before moisturizing.
